Trumpeter Swan
Trumpeter Swans are rare in Lycoming County, with 8 confirmed records. As the eastern population expands due to the Ontario reintroduction program, records may continue to increase, especially if the population becomes more migratory.
Sightings
- Individual M05 seen in the area of the Muncy Boat Launch from August to October 2014. M05 is a male hatched in 2012 (to parents 508 and 083) and was banded on 10/11/12, near Scarborough, ON, Canada.
- Individual L55 was regularly seen in the area of the Williamsport dam from August to October 2015, plus a single sighting in November after a few weeks absence. L55 hatched in the summer of 2012 at Gloucester Pool in Ontario (to parents 100 and L88).
- Individual M78 was seen the morning of 3/25/2017 at Rose Valley Lake. M78 is a male hatched in Burlington, Ontario during May 2013 to parents 150 and 198. He was found to have returned to Ontario in June 2017
- Individuals Z603 and Z675 were photographed on a private pond near Pier 87 on 4/1/2017, and were present until 4/7. These swans are a pair that have been traveling together, and are possibly escaped birds.
- A likely Trumpeter Swan was observed at the Williamsport Dam on 6/25/2017, and another (possibly the same bird) in Pennsdale some time during July 2017.
- Individual R45 was at a pond near Glen Mawr on 5/31/2018 and was present for at least a few days
- Individual T77 was near Larryville 6/2-6/4/2019
- An untagged one reported at Rose Valley Lake on 4/5/2019
- Individual V31 was at a pond near Rose Valley Lake beginning 12/21/2019, where it stayed until moving to the lake itself in late February 2020. It was present through at least 3/15/20
