Red-tailed Hawks are common year-round and regular nesters in Lycoming County. This is almost always the species of hawk seen perched along the highway when you are driving. In the winter, the abieticola/Northern "subspecies" is found in addition to our typical borealis subspecies. One particular abieticola individual has wintered outside of Montoursville since at least December 2013.
