Purple Finch

Somewhat uncommon and localized. More abundant in the winter. Rose Valley Lake seems to be reliable, though less so in recent years. Breeds primarily in the northern part of the county. Separating this species from House Finch can be a bit of a challenge for beginning birders, with bright House Finches often mistakenly identified as Purple Finches.
