Pomarine Jaeger
Pomarine Jaeger is very rare in Lycoming County and would typically only be associated with a hurricane. There is one putative record from 10/30/2012 at Rose Valley Lake in association with Superstorm Sandy. There was a state-wide event for this species that day, with at least 140 total individuals being reported from 16 counties. More information on this sighting and the single-day Pomarine Jaeger invasion throughout the state can be found in V26N4 of the Pennsylvania Birds quarterly journal.
Note: The 10/30/2012 record was accepted by PORC only as Jaeger sp., but we feel the identification was probably correct, and we will give the observers the benefit of the doubt, especially considering the state-wide Pomarine Jaeger invasion that particular day.
