Greater White-fronted Goose
Greater White-fronted Geese are fairly rare in Lycoming County, but are likely underreported because of a lack of birders checking migrating flocks.
One was reported on March 15, 2015 in Pennsdale farmland with large flock of Snow Geese. A flock of 13 were reported on February 20, 2016 near the Arch St. Bridge in Williamsport. The flock continued to be seen at various locations along the river up through February 24. This 2016 sighting was part of an invasion of many flocks of western Greater White-fronted Geese that were seen across Pennsylvania around the same time. A flyover bird was seen from Indian Park in Montoursville on November 22, 2017, and 3 flyover birds were seen at Mill St. in Montoursville on February 17, 2018. A single bird mixed in with a large flock of Canada geese was seen at Rose Valley Lake in March 2018. A flyover bird was seen at Mill St. on April 1, 2018, and (presumably the same bird) at the wetlands adjacent to South Williamsport Park. Two birds at a small pond in Hughesville were also present in early April 2018.
