American White Pelican

American White Pelican is a very rare visitor to Lycoming County. 21 individuals were reported on the pond at Indian Park in Montoursville on 9/22/1996. Hurricane Fran, which passed through about two weeks prior, is thought to have been involved. More information on that sighting can be found in V10N3 of the Pennsylvania Birds quarterly journal. A group of 13 dropped in at the Williamsport Dam on 5/18/2022, and stayed until the following afternoon.

The species has also been seen in nearby Montour County in recent years, so more Lycoming County records are definitely not out of the question.
