American Avocet is a rare visitor to Lycoming County. The first known sighting was 7/14/2017, when a group of 4 was found at the Williamsport Dam. Those birds were probably knocked down by inclement weather earlier in the day. A flock of 13 was present at the same location 4/18/2020, during another inclement weather event. The third record on 8/11/2020 was also at the Williamsport Dam, and appeared to be unrelated to inclement weather, and the same was true for the fourth record on 8/20/2022 and the fifth record on 7/17/2023.
