Lycoming County Summer 2024 Summary
There was an elevated birding effort during this summer season, since it was the first breeding season of the Third Pennsylvania Bird Atlas project. In total, 149 species were reported in Lycoming County during the summer.

Waterfowl
A Trumpeter Swan was seen at a small pond near Jersey Shore on 6/14 (BB, DeB, BoB).
An American Wigeon was at Rose Valley Lake 7/7 (BB, DB) through at least 7/20 (BB), which provided the first summer record of that species in Lycoming County.
It's pretty typical for a few diving ducks to spend the summer at Rose Valley Lake, and this summer was no exception. Up to two Ring-necked Ducks were seen during June (m. obs.), along with a July sighting on 7/20 (BB). Up to four Lesser Scaup were seen at the lake throughout the summer as well. Two male Buffleheads were present in early June, which dropped to one after 6/10 (BB), and the remaining one departed after 6/18 (BB). A Ruddy Duck was still at the lake at the beginning of June, but wasn't seen after 6/3 (m. obs.).
Shorebirds
A pair of Red-necked Phalaropes were at Rose Valley Lake on 6/3 (BB, DB, EH).
Warblers
A singing Blue-winged Warbler was in Proctor on 6/5 (DR, DanB). Several Mourning Warblers were along Cascade Rd. during June, in an area they have previously nested. After numerous sightings at the location during June, Cerulean Warblers were confirmed nesting along Firetower Rd. near Huntersville on 7/4 (BB). Yellow-throated Warblers with at least one recently-fledged young were at Trout Run Park on 6/16 (BB).
