Lycoming County Fall 2023 Summary
In total, 181 species were reported in Lycoming County during the fall.
Notable Observations

Waterfowl
A Surf Scoter was at Rose Valley Lake on 10/22 (BB), and one was present at the same location during fallout conditions on 10/30 (BB).
Shorebirds
A Red-necked Phalarope was at Rose Valley Lake on 9/21 (BB, et al.), providing the fifth record of that species for Lycoming County. Five Dunlins flew low over Rose Valley Lake during fallout conditions on 10/29 (BB).
Woodpeckers
A juvenile Red-headed Woodpecker was at SGL 252 on 10/8 (BB, RB).
Flycatchers
An Olive-sided Flycatcher was seen at Mill St. on 8/31 (DaB, DR, SB).
Vireos
A Philadelphia Vireo was at Rose Valley Lake on 9/11 (BB), two were at SGL 252 on 9/17 (BB, RB, AK), and two were at Rose Valley Lake on 9/26 (BB).
Shrikes
A Northern Shrike was first seen at Rose Valley Lake on 10/30 (BB) and was still present at the end of the fall season.
Wrens
A Marsh Wren was at the Robert Porter Allen Natural Area on 10/18 (BB).
Finches
After multiple reports during the summer season, Red Crossbills were reported as continuing at Haneyville Campground on 8/25 (EH). There were scattered Pine Siskin reports throughout Lycoming County, but it was far from a large irruption.
Longspurs & Snow Buntings
A Snow Bunting was at Rose Valley Lake on 11/12 (BB, et al.) and two were photographed on Oregon Hill Rd. on 11/19-20 (KL).
Sparrows
A Vesper Sparrow was present at the Robert Porter Allen Natural Area on 10/15 (BB), 10/21 (BB), 10/31 (BB), and 11/3 (BB).
Warblers
A late Common Yellowthroat was in Nisbet on 11/16 (DaB, DR), and another late one was at Rose Valley Lake on 11/22 (BB).
