Alpha Code Practice Tool
Here's a practice tool to review bird 4-letter alpha codes. This generator will quiz you on over 350 species that can be found in the eastern U.S. (some expected, some rare — and with more of a northeastern bias). Remember that codes should be all capital letters, but particularly on smartphones, lowercase or mixed case are often used for convenience, so this tool will accept any capitalization — so feel free to use all-lowercase for easier entry while practicing.
If you are struggling with these, you may want to review the LycoBirds Quick Start Guide to Alpha/Banding Codes.
Now updated with all of the taxonomic/name changes for 2024.
Note: you can use the "Check Answer" button or the enter/return key on your keyboard to submit your response for each. It will randomly pick species from the list, so you can continue as long as you want.
