Team LycoBirds Northern Lycoming CBC Results 2016
Team LycoBirds was split into two groups for the 2016 Northern Lycoming Christmas Bird Count, which was held on December 31, 2016. The first team was Bobby, Deb and Bob Brown, with Bobby collecting the data. David Brown and Ted Nichols were the second team, with David collecting data (as well as acting as the overall count compiler for both of Lycoming County's CBCs). Bobby, Deb and Bob covered Powys Wetland and sectors 2, 7 and 8, which is most of the Cogan House area. David and Ted covered the Jackson Twp. area, corresponding to sectors 5 and 6.
Team 1: Bobby, Deb, and Bob
Chilly but pleasant conditions in the morning gave way to gloomy skies by lunchtime, which was a pretty good match to how count day went in general. Powys was the first stop, and was pretty productive, with a Winter Wren and Field Sparrow tallied. Just after entering sector 7, which was the next stop, Bobby spotted a Golden Eagle soaring above the mountain. Next was the main Cogan House loop to try for the flock of Horned Larks that is normally present. The flock was present, and 3 Snow Buntings were mixed in as well. The rest of the day in the other areas of Cogan House was pretty quiet, with nothing terribly notable.
In total, 31 species were recorded.
